The United States are demanding the release of a diplomat detained in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - The United States demanded on Saturday the immediate release of a U.S. diplomat held by them illegally by authorities in Lahore (Pakistan) said the U.S. embassy in Islamabad."When arrested, the U.S. diplomat has presented himself to police as a diplomat and called repeatedly to enjoy immunity under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, " said embassy in a statement. 

"Local police and authorities have not fulfilled their legal obligations to verify his status with the Consulate General in Lahore, either with the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, " the statement said.

Raymond Davis was placed in custody Friday after being shot and killed two motorcyclists in Pakistan, providing investigators that they had pulled out their guns and preparing to attack.
